Art Photo Index

The Art Photo Index has just officially launched. This online, searchable index currently contains over 12,000 images by nearly 3,000 art and documentary photographers who have been invited to display their work. All of the included artists have been vetted at a high level and recognized for their work by awards, publications or gallery representation. Artists manage their own profile pages and images on the website which also contains their artist statements, biographical sketches and contact information. The Art Photo Index was conceived by Rixon Reed, Founder/Director of photo-eye. The API has been years in development and it was designed to be the most useful index and search engine for discovering and exploring fine-art and documentary photography. I'm proud to be included in this innovative endeavor.

Street Shots/NYC Exhibition

Although the South Street Seaport Museum sustained considerable damage on October 29 from super storm Sandy, it has reopened with the Street Shots/NYC exhibition which will be on display through April 5.
More than 5,000 images were submitted in response to the open call for this exhibition and the show will feature 150 images of contemporary NYC street photography by nearly 100 photographers. The exhibition was juried by Sean Corcoran, Curator of Prints and Photographs at the Museum of the City of New York
I'm delighted that my photo Coney Island Boardwalk, Brooklyn is included in the show. This image was previously awarded First Place Best of Show in the 2010 New York Photo Festival Capture Brooklyn Exhibition and was also was included in my Return to New York portfolio in Lenswork #97.

CDS/Honickman First Book Prize Finalist

The Honickman Foundation and the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University have combined to create a biennial book-publication prize for photographers from America and Canada who are engaged in personal projects of creative or social significance that do not have direct commercial interest. Winners of the CDS/Honickman First Book Prize in Photography receive a grant of $3,000, publication of a book of photography and inclusion in a website that features the prizewinners work. The winner is also given a solo exhibition at the Center for Documentary Studies and their prints will be placed in the Archive of Documentary Arts.
I’m honored to be one of thirteen finalists for the sixth biennial Honickman First Book Prize in Photography with an entry from my series Metro.
The competition required a portfolio of forty images, an artist statement with project details, and a brief biography. This year the thirteen finalists were selected by Kimberly Rorshach, director of the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University and the current vice president of the Association of Art Museum Directors. The finalists were then asked to submit ten sample prints from their portfolio. All of the materials will be sent to the juror Deborah Willis, Chair of the Department of Photography & Imaging at the Tisch School of Arts at New York University and a 2005 Guggenheim Fellow and Fletcher Fellow and a 2000 MacArthur Fellow. The winner of the prize will be announced in January 2013. Update: Information on the winner and finalists is now on the CDS website
