Parisian Gestures is a series of candid photographs of people going about their daily lives in Paris. The images portray situations that are mysterious, humorous, bizarre or poignant. They capture fleeting moments, spontaneous gestures and the ephemeral juxtaposition of people and their surroundings. These photos are neither posed nor staged and creating them requires both quick reactions and a great deal of shoe leather. Unlike elaborately constructed set pieces or patiently composed landscapes, there are no second takes for this type of photography. The intent of this work is to provide a brief glimpse into aspects of the human condition.

About the Artist:
Stan Raucher was born and raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota during the age of black and white television, Life magazine photo documentaries and the publication of The Family of Man. These early influences are reflected in his approach to photography. His photographs have been exhibited at the Benham Gallery (Seattle), the Collective Visions Gallery (Bremerton), the Larson Gallery (Yakima), and the Dishman Art Center (Beaumont, TX). He is a graduate of the University of Washington Extension Certificate Program in Photography and the Artist Trust EDGE program. His work may be viewed at
