Ernesto Bazan at PCNW

I'm looking forward to two extremely special events at PCNW in Seattle next week.

On Sunday, November 18, at 6:00 pm Ernesto Bazan will be giving a talk and slideshow of his Al Campo book from Cuba. This lush color work provides an interesting contrast and complement to his black and white photos in Bazan Cuba. Both of these books will be available for purchase and signing after the talk. These are two of my favorites in my large collection of photo books. More info on the Sunday talk may be found here.

On Monday and Tuesday, November 19 & 20, from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm each day, Ernesto will be teaching a workshop on building a strong portfolio through editing and sequencing. I have taken several workshops with Ernesto and he is an amazing teacher with an incisive eye for editing and sequencing a body of work. This two-day workshop may dramatically change the way you evaluate your photography and will bring your work to a higher level.

The entire workshop will be spent evaluating and sequencing images you have already made for a body of work you are creating. There will be no shooting of new images during the workshop. Instead, Ernesto wants participants to bring approximately 30 images (digital and/or prints) to be evaluated. It doesn't matter if you do street photography, documentary work, portraits or still-lifes, Ernesto will be able to provide you with new insights to improve your portfolio. More information about the workshop may be found here. The two-day workshop costs $400 and there is a 10% discount if you're a PCNW member.

There are interesting links to Ernesto's work in Time Lightbox, NYT Lens Blog and  an  ASX Interview
