Adore Noir 2012 Portfolio Contest

I’m delighted to have been selected as one of six winners of the 2012 Adore Noir Magazine Portfolio Contest with images from my Avoid Naples! series. The contest was judged by Chris Kovacs, editor of Adore Noir, and Susan Spiritus of the Susan Spiritus Gallery. Each of the six photographers will have their work featured in Adore Noir with a twelve page spread and a detailed interview in Adore Noir Issue 10, to be published in October 2012. The other winning photographers are Allan Gill, Alexei Krasnikov, Eric Kellerman, Russell Monk and Tommy Ingberg. Adore Noir is a bimonthly PDF based E-magazine which features fine art black and white photography and articles covering a wide variety of topics. Critical Mass 2012 Finalist List

I’m honored to be on the Critical Mass 2012 Finalist List with images from my Avoid Naples! series. Critical Mass, part of Photolucida, is an annual program which provides finalists the opportunity to have their work reviewed by a large jury of approximately 200 renowned photography professionals from around the world. Photographers submit a portfolio of ten images, an artist statement and a brief biography. The work is initially screened by a committee of 20 jurors to select the finalist. Their portfolios are then reviewed and ranked by the larger jury. One or more of the finalists is selected for a book award and after publication, the monographs are sent to all participants and jurors. This program is a wonderful opportunity for emerging and mid-career photographers to obtain crucial exposure and to promote their art.

Slideluck Seattle IX

Slideluck Potshow was begun by Casey Kelbaugh in Seattle in the summer of 2000 as a home-grown experiment dedicated to building and strengthening community through food and art. Since that time, Slideluck has grown and now hosts events in over fifty cities around the world. I’ve shown my work at Slideluck Seattle five times in the past and I’m extremely excited to be part of Slideluck Seattle IX, which returns home after an absence of three years. The event will be on Saturday, August 18, and begins with a potluck dinner at 7 pm, followed at 9 pm by slideshows featuring the work of 29 artists accompanied with a soundtrack by Erik Blood. The other artists include Aaron Huey, Alys Kenny, Amanda Manitach, Andrew Hetherington, Andy Reynolds, Casey Kelbaugh, Chris Bavara, Daniel Carrillo, Duncan Smith, Eleanor Petry, Ethan Welty, Frank Coronada, Jennifer Tucker, Jenny Riffle, John Keatley, Kemba Opio, Kevin Cruff, Kristine Eng, Lauren Max, Loewyn Young, Matt Lutton, Matt Mills McKnight, Maura Sullivan, Michael Barkin, Michael Clinard, Nick Shiflet, Paul Kooiman, SCNTFC, and Serrah Russell. The event will be held at VODA Studios, 1050 West Nickerson Ave, Seattle. A larger sized preview of my contribution Avoid Naples! may be viewed on YouTube.

F-Stop Magazine and Fototazo Latin America Exhibition

I'm delighted that my image La Salida from my series Central de Autobuses was included in the F-Stop Magazine #54 Latin America Exhibition. The exhibition was co-curated by Christy Karpinski, the founder and editor of F-Stop Magazine, and Tom Griggs, editor of Fototazo, a unique online site based in Colombia that combines social giving and photography. The exhibition is currently on display in F-Stop Magazine and selected images will also be shown in five separate posts on Fototazo.
